A refresh resends your subscription authorization to the radio. Use it when you are subscribed but channels are missing, locked, or display a message like "Call SiriusXM to subscribe." You can request a refresh from the official SiriusXM website using your Radio ID or VIN.

## Quick answer: how to refresh

* Park outside with a clear view of the sky.
* Turn the radio on and tune to the preview channel (channel 1 on many radios, 184 on some).
* Visit the official SiriusXM refresh page and enter your Radio ID or VIN.
* Keep the radio on until a confirmation message appears. The refresh signal is sent twice; the first can arrive in seconds and the second up to about 5 minutes later.

## When to refresh your radio

* Right after XM radio activation, if channels do not unlock.
* After you change or upgrade your plan.
* After a car battery change, radio repair, or head unit replacement.
* When channels that were working suddenly show as locked or missing.
* After transferring service to a new vehicle.

## How to send a refresh signal

  <Step title="Park outside">
    Move your car to an open area with a clear view of the sky. Garages, tunnels, and covered parking will block the signal.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Turn the radio on">
    Switch to SiriusXM mode and tune to channel **1** or any preview channel. On some radios, channel 184 is the preview channel.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Request the refresh">

  </Step>

  <Step title="Keep the radio on">
    Leave the radio on until your channels return. Do not switch off the car or change the channel during this time.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  The refresh signal is sent twice. The first may arrive in seconds, and the second can take up to about 5 minutes. If channels do not return after the second signal, wait a few minutes and try again before contacting customer care.
</Tip>

## Radio ID vs VIN for refresh

The Radio ID is more reliable than the VIN for refresh if the head unit was replaced. If you recently had a new radio installed, always use the Radio ID from the new unit instead of the VIN.

## Common refresh issues

| Issue | What to do |
| - | - |
| Refresh sent but channels still missing | Wait up to 5 minutes for the second signal. Try again if needed. |
| Radio in a garage or under cover | Move outside with a clear view of the sky. |
| Radio turned off during refresh | Restart the process with the radio on throughout. |
| Head unit replaced | Use the new Radio ID, not the VIN. |
