Existing SiriusXM subscribers can move service to a new vehicle, add an additional vehicle, transfer unused service, or deactivate a vehicle they no longer own. The official transfer page is at siriusxm.com/transfer. You will need the Radio IDs for both the old and new vehicles to complete most transfer actions.

<ClickButton />

## Quick answer: how to transfer

* Gather the Radio IDs from both your old and new vehicles.
* Go to siriusxm.com/transfer on the official SiriusXM website.
* Choose whether to transfer, add, or deactivate service.
* Follow the prompts and enter the required Radio IDs.
* After the transfer, park the new vehicle outside and send a refresh signal if channels do not appear immediately.

## What you need before you start

* Your SiriusXM account login (email and password).
* The old vehicle's Radio ID (tune to channel 0).
* The new vehicle's Radio ID (tune to channel 0).
* Both vehicles parked outside with a clear view of the sky for the refresh step.

<Tip>
  The Radio ID is more reliable than the VIN for refresh if the head unit was replaced. Always write down the Radio ID from the actual radio in the new vehicle.

  </Step>

  <Step title="Refresh the new radio">

</Steps>

## Selling or buying a used car

### If you are selling

Deactivating the old vehicle before or right after the sale protects you from continuing to pay for a car you no longer own. Use siriusxm.com/transfer to remove the vehicle from your account. This also frees the new owner to activate the radio under their own account.

### If you are buying

Ask the seller if the SiriusXM radio is still linked to their account. If it is, they should deactivate it. Then you can activate the radio under your own account on the official SiriusXM website. You may need the Radio ID rather than the VIN if the head unit was replaced. See [XM radio activation](/blog/xm-radio-activation).

## What to do after the transfer

After a transfer, your new vehicle's radio may need a refresh signal to receive the updated subscription. Follow these steps:

* Park outside with a clear view of the sky.
* Turn the radio on and tune to channel 1 or 184.
* Request a refresh at siriusxm.com/refresh using the new Radio ID.
* Wait for the confirmation message. The signal is sent twice; the first may arrive in seconds and the second up to about 5 minutes later.

See [Refresh your SiriusXM radio](/blog/refresh-siriusxm-radio) for full details.
