XM radio activation takes three steps: tune your XM or SiriusXM radio to channel 0 to find your Radio ID, enter that ID (or your car’s VIN) on the official SiriusXM website or app, then keep the radio on outside with a clear view of the sky until your channels unlock. Most SiriusXM radios activate within a few minutes. XM radio and SiriusXM radio are the same service today: XM Satellite Radio and Sirius merged in 2008 to form SiriusXM. This guide explains activation, Radio IDs, free trials, transfers, and fixes for common SiriusXM radio problems in plain language.

What is SiriusXM radio?

SiriusXM radio is a subscription audio service that broadcasts music, sports, news, talk, comedy, and podcasts by satellite to compatible car and home radios. It also streams through the SiriusXM app on phones, computers, and smart speakers. Unlike FM radio, the satellite signal covers wide areas, so you can keep the same channel during a long drive. XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio merged in 2008 to create the single SiriusXM service available today.
